Hyrum G. Smith was the son of Hyrum F. Smith and Hannah Gibbs Smith. He was born 8 July 1879 in South Jordan, Utah. 17 August 1904 he married Martha Electa Gee in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. He and his wife were the parents of six children. Hyrum studied for three years at Brigham Young Academy (now Brigham Young University), graduating in teaching.
